Barbados is full of great restaurants where you can enjoy both traditional and specialty cuisine. A large number of Barbados restaurants are located near the beaches, which means that you can usually dine with a great view. There are restaurants in Barbados for every taste and budget--just remember to bring a good appetite as the cuisine is truly special. We recommend always being aware of the restaurant's dress code, as many restaurants require formal dress.
Recommended Restaurants in Barbados:
Bellini's Trattoria

Classic Italian food and wine and one of the most beautiful settings for dining in Barbados. We recommend the Shrimp Bellini to start, but the entire menu is excellent. Located in St. Lawrence Gap, Christ Church, Barbados. Open from 6 to 10:30 pm daily.
The Tides Restaurant

Sumptuous food, beautiful gardens, fine decor, and a beautiful waterside location are to be expected at The Tides Restaurant. Art lovers will appreciate the integrated art gallery, as well as the artistic flavors of food present on The Tides menu. We recommend trying the fresh Caribbean lobster. The Tides Restaurant is open for dinner Monday through Saturday, and lunch Monday through Friday. Attire is formal and reservations are recommended. Located in Holetown, St. James, Barbados.
The Cliff Restaurant

The Cliff restaurant is considered one of Barbados's best restaurants. The Cliff's tagline says it all: "Sensuous food, sinful dessert, elegant wine, truly unforgettable." What makes this restaurant so unforgettable is its innovative cuisine and its location atop a 10-foot coral cliff. The restaurant takes advantage of its cliffside vantage point with a multi-tiered design that gives every table a view of the sea. Open for dinner only, the restaurant is truly magical at night when it is illuminated with candles and torches for a romantic ambience.
Chef Paul Owen is known for his cuisine that blends the flavors of the Caribbean with those of other nations. Diners can begin their meal with classic appetizers such as foie gras and chicken liver parfait with apple and raisin chutney and port glaze, ravioli filled with smoked salmon, cream cheese, spinach, or snails in puff pastry. Chef Owen's entrees cover the gamut from traditional dishes such as filet of beef, duck breast with wild mushroom sauce, veal chop with Dijon mustard and tarragon sauce to dishes infused with the exotic such as Thai curried shrimp and grilled snapper with three coriander sauces.
Don't miss the restaurant's sinful desserts which include such classics as creme brulee with red berry coulis, chocolate mousse, petit fours as well as baked apple crumble and white chocolate cheesecake. The restaurant has a nice wine menu as well.
The restaurant is located on Barbados's fashionable West Coast in Derricks, St. James. All of Barbados fine restaurants have a dress code and The Cliff is no exception. The Cliff prefers elegantly casual attire, which means long pants and a nice shirt for men and sundresses or dressy pants sets for women. Shorts and beachwear are prohibited. The restaurant serves dinner only, and reservations are recommended.
The Restaurant at Southsea

Since opening in 2003, The Restaurant at Southsea has been winning fans, rave reviews, and awards. In fact, shortly after it opened, it made Condé Nast Traveler's prestigious "Hot List Tables" as one of the best new restaurants in the world. Situated on the south coast of the island overlooking a gentle bay, The Restaurant at Southsea operates out of a traditional Barbadian home that has been elegantly and fully updated to give it a decor that scored highly in the 2007 Barbados Zagat guide. The restaurant's service also received Zagat's top ranking.
Aside from its beautiful setting and decor and excellence in service, the restaurant owes its reputation to the delicious range of international cuisine it offers. From the inventive to the traditional, the menu options are diverse and change often. There are some mainstays, however, like deep-fried alligator pieces and Carpaccio of Ostrich Tenderloin. The menu does include several plates that most likely would appeal to less adventurous diners, including plenty of fresh seafood, and there's even a vegetarian menu. The restaurant also boasts an outstanding wine list, a large cigar menu, and "the Caribbean's most extensive vintage rum collection." For more information, visit the establishment's website.
The Restaurant at Southsea is open Monday through Saturday, 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. and is available for private functions. Due to the restaurant's popularity, reservations are highly recommended.
Scarlet Restaurant
(246) 432-3663
What was once a chattel-house has been transformed into the island's coolest nightspot. This happening, London-style bistro and bar takes its name from the vibrant red that colors the restaurant's exterior and interior. Vibrant red walls are accented with bold Andy Warhol paintings of celebrities like Marilyn Monroe and Jackie O.
Diners can sit at the black lacquered tables and minglers can find a spot at the long, red bar. Martinis and other cocktails are listed in the Thirst menu, while comfort foods and Bajan dishes with a twist can be found in the Hungry menu.
Scarlet caters to the after-midnight offering lots of nibbles, drinks, and action. Located across from Daphne's on the West Coast, Scarlet is just 15- 20 minutes from the capital of Bridgetown.
Scarlet is open for Tuesday through Sunday from 5 p.m. until late.
