Blue Iguana

About Blue Iguana, St. Croix

Fresh and appealing as a tropical morning, this airy new villa is set right on the beach in the gated community of Judith’s Fancy on St. Croix’s north shore. Enter a sunny great room with walls painted the yellow hue of Ginger Thomas, the Virgin Islands’ official flower.

Rattan island-style furnishings cushioned with cheerful awning stripes invite you to sink in and put your feet up in front of an entertainment center, complete with books, videos, wireless internet and cable TV.

Overhead are white beams with track lights and rope-trimmed ceiling fans crafted like props on the local seaplanes you’ll spot taking off in the distance. A sleek, modern kitchen, with wood cabinetry trimmed in sophisticated black, has a roomy island with barstools to pull up for informal gatherings. You’re fully equipped, too, to prepare and serve elegant meals at a dining table with views of the sea.

To the right, you’ll find a master suite with a wall of windows facing the beach. Open the lower window panels to scent your dreams with the tang of salt air.

Decorated in yellow and soothing green palm tree motifs, this room, like all the bedrooms, has sliding doors leading to the pool gallery and sea. The marble master bath has a large walk-in glass shower and double vanity, plus a convenient full size washer and dryer close at hand.

On the left side of the great room, a blue bedroom with twin beds has a separate bathroom/powder room with a stylish glass bowl sink.

The third blue iguana bedroom is very private, with entry only from the pool patio via sliding glass doors, and features a bathroom with glass-walled shower and marble vanity.

Outdoors, you’ll have an additional living area: a gallery and pool fringed in sea grape trees, where you can swim with the sights and sounds of the Caribbean, or blink in the sun like the lazy iguanas that lend the villa their name. Walk just seven steps down to the sand for morning strolls and sunset swims with a view of sailboats navigating their way to harbor.

Though you can spend glorious days without ever leaving the villa, its centered north shore location is ideal for enjoying all St. Croix offers. Just a few minutes away by car, fine dining is offered at oceanfront restaurants. Head east to explore the Colonial Danish West Indies town of Christiansted, with its historic sites, boutiques, art galleries, and restaurants.

Or turn the other direction for the Salt River Marina and Cane Bay, both offering Scuba diving, kayaking, and additional water sports. Enjoy spectacular sunsets at the island’s second town of Frederiksted at the far west end of the island.

Returning to your villa, you’ll note a striking contrast between the old and the new. Nearby are treasured plantation ruins, dating back to the island’s earliest settlement, yet indoors you’ll be pampered by today’s favorite amenities facing the timeless sea. And you’ll find contrast, too, in your choice between abundant activities available or the chance to truly enjoy doing nothing at all, the true sign of a perfect vacation.

Reviews for Blue Iguana, St. Croix

  • “We stayed at the Blue Iguana, St. Croix, the last week in June 2010. For persepective, we have rented villas on numerous Caribbean islands, in Mexico, and the US. The description and pictures on this and other web sites are accurate and without any misinformtaion, and as far as I can tell, the pictures are current. The villa is exceptional, and a great value. Very spacious, well appointed, clean and in great shape, and everything worked. It was just myself and my wife, but the configuratin of the 3 bedrooms could accomodate 3 couples or some combination. They are all private. The villa is very private, and the location directly on the ocean is wonderful. The only people you see are occassional surfers and para-sailers. The ocean is pretty rough and we did not try swimming. The beach is rocky, and you can't walk real far, but it is still great to be able to get to the beach in 20 seconds. All utilities worked, and the ac in the bedrooms was very effective. There is no ac, or any real ventilation in the kitchen/living area, and it gets pretty stuffy, but we did not spend a lot of time in there. There is plenty of hot water, but maybe not real great pressure. But, if you can shower while you can see and hear the ocean (outside shower) maybe pressure is not a big deal. Driving on St. Croix, like many islands, is a bit of a challenege. Unlike a lot of islands, St. Croix is pretty good size, relatively, and there are lots of roads, many of which do not appear on the maps available. Just be careful trying to navigate at night, until you get your bearings. Overall, it is a geat villa, and a great island. Dan” Dan Russell
