St. Lucia Transportation

Getting To St. Lucia

Direct flights to St. Lucia depart from New York’s Kennedy airport, Miami, Philadelphia and Atlanta. There are also direct flights from Toronto, Montreal and London.

From within the Caribbean, American Eagle, LIAT, Air Jamaica and WestJet offer flights to St. Lucia.

Tip: If you are staying on the north part of the island, try to fly in to the smaller regional airport near Castries (Vigie Field) and avoid a two hour bumpy taxi ride from the larger international airport (Hewanorra International) in the south.

Getting Around St. Lucia

Taxi

The taxis are plentiful and there is bus service (mini-vans) between most of the towns.

Car Rentals

Several major car rental agencies are represented. To drive, you will need a local permit (EC$30) which can be obtained at the airport and car rental offices. Remember to drive on the left. When driving, use extreme caution as the roads here are in poor condition. Plan for unexpected road hazards. When renting a car, we strongly recommend 4WD vehicles to allow for easier navigation through St. Lucia’s hilly terrain.

Island Hopping

Inter-island travel is provided by a variety of vessels. Nearby destinations include the Grenadines, Martinique, Guadeloupe and Dominica.
