St. Barts is known as a place for the “Jet Set,” an island to see and be seen on as you enjoy its fabulous beaches, delicious restaurants and world renowned shopping. As we flew into the luxurious island, the magnificent views provided a telling first impression of its atmosphere. Gleaming tropical waters surrounded the port town of Gustavia, and breathtaking yachts lined the docks of the harbor. Our first impression was strengthened as we drove through the tiny town of St. Jean, and up the mountain on our way to our villa. We were only in St. Barts for a week, but I can assure you that each day brought new and indescribable wonders, and only served to confirm my whole-hearted opinion that St. Barts is truly a slice of paradise and a must-visit Caribbean island.
TOP BEACH VILLA
If you’re a beach lover, Villa La Plage is the place for you. Meaning “Villa of The Beach” in French, it really lives up to its name. Located on the beautiful white sands of Lorient Beach, and only a 15-minute ride from Gustavia, this 5-bedroom villa includes a home cinema, private swimming pool, Jacuzzi spa and, of course, direct access to the beach. An elegant French-style courtyard welcomes visitors and leads to separate entryways to four of the bedrooms, each with its own sitting area within the gardens. The Jacuzzi spa is nestled in the center of the courtyard and adjacent to the wet bar, making it a perfect place to entertain guests on a breezy island evening. Each spacious bedroom has its own full bathroom and intimate patio. The beautifully-designed master bedroom and balcony look out over the gorgeous pool and are positioned perfectly for stunning views of the sunset over Lorient beach. Its open and welcoming atmosphere makes Villa La Plage the perfect getaway spot for families, couples or friends looking to enjoy St. Barths at its finest.
FAVORITE VILLA
Situated high on the mountainside, with extraordinary and unimpeded views of the ocean, villa Dunes provides a secluded paradise for visitors of all ages. Private gates separate the main road from the quarter mile drive up to this private and luxurious villa. Without any other villas or houses obstructing your view to the ocean, you’ll really feel as though you’re the only one on the island every time you look out your window. A gorgeous entryway separates the villa’s two pools, one made for sunning and recreation, and the other a lap pool for exercise. The living room and dining room are completely open and stretch seamlessly to the outdoors. There are two kitchens, one being a private preparation kitchen for a personal chef. The main house has four pristinely modern bedrooms, and there is also a romantic bungalow on the property with two other bedrooms. While guests can bask in private luxury, the villa Dunes is also conveniently located near Saline beach, which is just a short walk down the road, and to the island's famous Italian restaurant, PaCri. Plus, Gustavia is only a 5-minute drive away. We highly recommend this incredible hidden treasure to multi-generational families, or to a group of friends looking to escape. Dunes is bound to impress and relax all of its visitors.
MUST-TRY RESTAURANT
In the mood for great Italian food on a French island? If so, be sure you make time for PaCri. Just a short walk from Saline beach (about a 10-minute drive from Gustavia), PaCri is an excellent choice for crave-worthy and authentic Italian cuisine and wines. The service is exceptional – our server was extremely attentive and knowledgeable in terms of the menu. For a savory appetizer, try the eggplant parmigiana. However, each pasta dish is better than the next, so you truly can’t go wrong. The menu changes often as the chef prides his food on its freshness. For those who enjoy wine, ask your server for a recommendation based on your dinner selection. You won’t be disappointed! The casual, yet charming, atmosphere is nice for couples, families and children alike. All are welcomed, and all enjoy.
TRANSPORTATION
We arrived in St. Barts by a small commuter plane (WinAir) after a nonstop flight on American Airlines from JFK to St. Maarten (Jetblue and Continental also have direct flights from the NYC area). The flight from St. Maarten to St. Barts is under 10 minutes; however, for those who prefer not to fly in small planes, ferry transfers can be arranged (around 40 minutes). Once you've arrived on the island, you will need a rental car to get around, but don't worry; our concierge team can assist you with making those reservations.
