Thank you for choosing Island Hideaways we are most appreciative of your business and we hope that you find this information useful. What to know before you go:
- Have all the required travel documents for the countries you are visiting, as well as identification for re-entry to the U.S. Passports are required for re-entry to the U.S. by air. Visit www.travel.state.gov for destination information.
- If you have not considered renting a car, now is the time. Let us reserve this for you, you will want to explore the destination and being dependent upon a cab service, especially during high season, is not as convenient as having your own vehicle.
- While on board the airplane, keep hydrated. Buy a big bottle of water after you get through security and bring it on the plane with you, avoid the dehydrating drinks like liquor and caffeinated drinks.
- Flex your muscles and walk the length of the plane every couple of hours, this is important to maintain good health while flying.
- Remember to cancel your home newspaper delivery.
- Contact the post office to have them hold your mail while you are away.
- Organize your credit cards that you are planning to bring with you and order travelers checks. Make a list of emergency numbers to call if your credit cards or travelers checks get lost or stolen. Make a photocopy of all your credit cards (front & back), your passport and the contents of your wallet. That way if you lose anything, this will help you replace it easily.
- Before you leave check the weather at your destination www.weather.com for any last minute wardrobe adjustments.
- Once you have packed, remove 1/3 of the items. Traveling light will save you money & time at the airport, and it may enable you to carry on your bags.
- If you are flying on a commercial airline, call the airline and confirm that your flight is departing on time.
- Reserve any special services you will require before your arrival, things such as chefs, massage and spa treatments, nannies, golf tee times, restaurant reservations, and so on. These services often are sold out weeks in advance, so book early and avoid disappointment.
- If you are arriving late in the day or traveling with children, please ask to have your villa pre-stocked with the groceries of your choice. This service is well worth the fee, so you can relax and settle into your villa without having to rush out to the store, and it allows you to start your vacation right upon arrival at the villa.
- Make sure to bring power adaptors for any Europe villa destination, as well as St Martin, St Barts, Anguilla and St Lucia.
- Make sure to bring sunscreen, for many of our villas are located in tropical climates and the sun can be very strong.
- If you are planning on doing laundry while at the villa, please let us know as many villas have laundry facilities for the housekeeping staff only, and we will make sure you will have access to these facilities.
- Most villas are based on double occupancy per room; you may not at any time have more guests than have been approved by Villas of Distinction and the local villa management.
- Most villas include toilet paper, tissues, and hand soap. Additional items such as paper towels, cooking spices, dish soap, and laundry detergent will only be in the villa if left by past guests, which often is the case.
- See your primary care physician to make sure you are leaving in top condition. If you are traversing time zones, ask your doctor whether you should continue taking your medication at your regular, home-zone time or switch.
- Get a letter from your doctor explaining any medical conditions you might have and their current treatments. It will come in handy if you need to consult with a doctor while you are away. You should also have him/her list all prescription medications you take, as well as, when, why, how and at what dosage, and keep them in their original containers.
- If you have not considered our travel insurance – reconsider! For peace of mind, most health policies do not include evacuation or non emergency care while traveling abroad.
- Program your doctors’ contact information into your cell phone.
- Carry all prescription medication in your carry on bags, and in the event of an unexpected delay returning; always have 2 extra days of medication with you.
Most importantly, have a wonderful trip and on behalf of our entire staff, thank you once again for your business, enjoy your time in your home away from home.
Best Regards,
Steven Lassman
