Caribbean Wedding Requirements

Barbados

Cost
If neither party is a citizen of Barbados: US $75 and US $12.50 in Barbados postage stamps.

Barbados Marriage License Laws:
  • Marriage license secured from the Ministry of Home Affairs
  • No waiting period
  • If you are staying at a resort, consult with the manager or wedding coordinator to help you make arrangements to secure your marriage license

    Barbados Marriage License Fee:
    US $75 cash and US $12.50 Barbados postage stamps for the wedding plus US $10 for the marriage certificate

    Identification Needed for a Barbados Marriage License :
  • Valid passports
  • Proof of divorce or death certificate
  • Copies of applicable marriage certificates
  • Letter from the Marriage Officer
  • Parental consent for parties under 18 (minimum age to marry is 16)

    British Virgin Islands (Tortola and Virgin Gorda)

    British Virgin Islands Marriage License Laws:
  • Apply for license at the Attorney General’s office in Tortola on the same day of arrival
  • Waiting period: 3 days
  • In a local church, the wedding banns must be published on three consecutive Sundays or Saturdays prior to the ceremony, in that church
  • If you are staying at a resort, consult with the manager or wedding coordinator to help you make arrangements to secure your marriage license

    British Virgin Islands Marriage License Fee:
    US $110 (BVI postage stamps) for a Special License for those resident in the BVI for 3 days; US $50 (BVI postage stamps) for an Ordinary License for those resident in the BVI for 15 days or more

    Identification Needed for a British Virgin Islands Marriage License :
  • Passport and date of arrival in the British Virgin Islands
  • Proof of marital status
  • Two witnesses to sign application form for license and to witness the ceremony

    Cayman Islands

    Cayman Islands Marriage License Laws:
  • Couples can marry the same day they arrive in the Cayman Islands provided they have a non-resident’s marriage license granted by the Governor and two witnesses present at the ceremony
  • When the Governor is satisfied with application, a special license will be issued and provided to the officiate
  • Other than the special license, marriage can take place on the authority of a certificate issued by a civil registrar

    Cayman Islands Marriage License Fee:
    Non-residents must obtain a marriage license from the Deputy Chief Secretary’s Office at a cost of US $200

    Identification Needed for a Cayman Islands Marriage License :
  • Passport or an original birth certificate with photo ID
  • Proof of citizenship and age (18 minimum without parental consent)
  • Certified or original copies of divorce decree or death certificate
  • Letter from the authorized Marriage Officer (officiant)

    Jamaica

    Jamaica Marriage License Laws:
  • Waiting period: 24 hours
  • Apply and receive a marriage certificate from the Ministry of National Security

    Jamaica Marriage License Fee:
    Cost of the license is approximately US $80
    There are non-denominational Marriage Officers who can officiate either at their offices, in their homes or at a place chosen by the couple, and are able to provide witnesses. Marriage Officers charge anywhere from US $50 – US $250

    Identification Needed for a Jamaica Marriage License :
  • Photo identification plus proof of citizenship (certified copy of birth certificate which includes father’s name)
  • Certified copy of death certificate or divorce decree
  • Parental consent if either party is under 18
  • Italian nationals must notify their embassy and a certified copy of their marriage certificate forwarded to their embassy to be legalized and translated
  • French Canadians need a notarized translated copy of all documents and a photocopy of the original French documents

    U.S. Virgin Islands (St. John, St. Croix and St. Thomas)

    U.S. Virgin Islands Marriage License Laws:
  • Waiting period: 8 days (From receipt of notarized .application. Couple need not be on-island).
  • Send a letter requesting a marriage license to the Territorial court of the U.S. Virgin Islands in St. Thomas or St. Croix.
  • Proof of divorce.
  • Must make appointment to be married by a judge.

    U.S. Virgin Islands Marriage License Fee:
    US$50. US$200 fee to be married in the court by a judge.
    Payment in money order or cashier's check.


    St. Lucia

    St. Lucia Marriage License Laws:
  • Waiting period: 2 days residency; 2 days for license
  • Change of name documents.
  • Proof of divorce or death certificate.
  • Birth certificate or passport.
  • All foreign documents must be translated into English.
  • Apply through a local lawyer to the Attorney General for marriage license.

    St. Lucia Marriage License Fee:
    Approximately US$198
